It's funny you know, when many people talk to you about Jesus and accepting him they very rarely tell you what you are really in for! The basic consensus is that you accept Jesus into your heart by reciting a prayer that is lead by the Pastor and then you are saved. I am pretty sure that many people, well I know I have personally, been left feeling like okay now what!? You very rarely get told what comes with being saved by Jesus. Accepting Jesus is the easy part everything that follows is the hard part so to speak.
Well I am here to tell you that you can not just accept Jesus and be done with it, you have to put work into it like any other relationship. The difference is that you can not see the person that you are in that relationship with physically. But just because you can not physically see Him does not mean that relationship is not important. If anything it is the most important relationship that you will ever have in your life! You may be wondering, "how am I supposed to have a relationship with someone I can not see?" Well the answer is simple:
Pray (communicate with him, even if this means all you do is cry, he knows your heart)
Read his Words (open up your bible and start reading, you will find that he has answered your prayers in his words, not sure where to start well Start with Matthew! Get to know Jesus)
Journal (write down whatever sticks out at you when you are reading, write out your prayers to him, write down your questions)
Ask for Help (just like in school when we are taught new ideas and concepts we are encouraged to ask for help with whatever it is that we do not understand, well guess what, that same idea of thinking applies to your walk with Jesus, Seek out those such as Pastors, Church elders, Church members who can help you understand what God is saying in his word.)
Once we have accepted Jesus into our hearts and have proclaimed him our lord and savior does not mean that we are left alone to figure it out for ourselves, There are people all around you that God has strategically placed in your life to help you. You have to remember God already knows what has happened and what will happen, He has not left us without guidance and help.
Like I said accepting Jesus is the easy part, building the relationship, building your faith through trials and tribulations, Making quality time for him, figuring out how to separate yourself from a world that is dying these are the hard parts but they are doable and with every step taken towards Jesus is a step towards an eternal life and a happiness that many people can not and will not ever understand.
